07-09-2009The competion we last weekend(27th to 29th of August) and we had a great time.
It start on friday, with the apresentations. We did very well, with a nice 7th overall position(project+apresentation)
The other two days was for flight competation. We did 3 flys, one on saturday and two on sunday. We lift the follow loads:
1st fly - 3,5kg - not a valid fly
2nd fly - 5kg - valid fly and we "fly" to the third position in overall
3rd fly - 6kg - the only valid fly in the series and we mantiened the third position
We finished the competion in 3rd position and in 1st national rank. We are very glad for this result and it is amazing since no one of us have a basic traning in aeronatics branch.
We want to thank to IPL for their financial support, DEM-ESTG for material support and "loan" the instalations and DEE-ESTG for electronic mateiral support. We, also, want to thank to every friend who help us. Thank you all
03-08-2009We start to construc the molds to the fuselage. As we can see in the next figure.

We are using a NACA 009 Airfoil, since is a neutral airfiol.

We Start the Construction of our Plane.
We have done the ribs of our wing. We are using a CNC machine to cut them, as you can see in figure.
We are using a SELIG 1223 Airfoil, and a sandwich composite mafe of Carbon fiber and PVC foam. This combination make them extremely lieght, with strongness.
We are constructing a Wing Test for project validation.
This wing is made by carbon fiber outside and Polystyrene foam inside.
The airfoil was cut with a hot hire.

Área Projectada/Projected Area: 0.69m^2 Envergadura/Wingpsan: 3m Motor AXI 2820 gold Máximo peso levantado/Maximum Load: 9.4 Kg Nós somos um grupo de estudantes e um professor do Instituto Politécnico de Leiria, cujo objecto é a participação no Air Cargo Challenge 2009.
Esta é a segunda participação desta equipa, cujo núcleo base se mantém, salvo raras excepções e após uma boa prestação, onde conseguimos um 5º Lugar na geral, e um 2º Lugar nacional.

We are a Professor and Student´s group from Polytechnic Institute of Leiria, with the aim to participating in Air Cargo Challenge 2009.
This is the second participation of the team, which the main group still the same, and after a good classification, where we did a 5th Geral place and a 2nd National Place.
